Grunt Your Way to Victory

Turns out Monica Seles was onto something.

A study in PLOS One showed that grunting or yelling while playing a sport may actually improve your performance. Specifically, the study looked at martial arts and found that the athletes who grunted while kicking a training bag produced 10 percent more force than those who didn’t make the noise. The idea: By shouting, you’re forcing air out of your body and stabilizing your core for better power. The study theorized this could help in sports that require short bursts of energy, such as tennis or even power lifting. We could also theorize that this could help your golf swing; good luck finding a course that will let you back on afterward, though.
