The Top-Selling Homes of the Year

A look at the priciest homes of the year in Collier and Lee counties

BY January 5, 2016

Waves lapping at the shore, soft sandy beaches, brilliant sunsets over the Gulf of Mexico—these and other unique characteristics bring the top-selling real estate deals in Southwest Florida.

Many of the past year’s best-sellers are along Naples’ well-known Gordon Drive, in other areas of Port Royal or on some precious islands. The top real estate sale in the area was at 4500 Gordon Drive in Naples (the white house pictured below), with a 7,000-square-foot home and 150 feet of prime beach frontage. It sold for $20 million.

In Lee County, the top-selling deal was a 100-acre, isolated estate at Little Bokeelia Island (pictured below), involving a vintage home once owned by the inventor of batteries, Charles Burgess, a friend of Thomas Edison who frequented the island. The estate reportedly had global interest with potential buyers coming from South Africa, China and India before a Florida-based entrepreneur purchased it.

Today the estate includes a guest cottage and several other outbuildings. The selling price was $14.5 million.
