Realty Check: What Your Money Will Buy

Find out how much you have to fork over to buy one of Southwest Florida's fanciest homes.

Southwest Florida is home to some of the nicest real estate in the country. Thinking about buying a slice of paradise? Find out here how much you'll have to hand over to be able to afford the toniest homes in the area.

$7.2 million

The 3577 W. Gulf Drive estate sold for $7.2 million in July as the highest recorded home sale ever on Sanibel Island, according to Phaidra McDermott, a John R. Wood broker associate who listed and sold the property. Built in 2013, it’s one of the fewer new constructions to hit the Sanibel market. “It really has a fabulous layout. Everything flows really beautifully, and it has a tremendous area for outdoor entertainment,” McDermott says. An infinity-edge pool overlooks the beach and “makes you feel like you’re on top of the Gulf itself.” The nearly 6,000-square-foot dwelling has an Old World feel with coastal finishes, and it is blended with innovative design and technology, McDermott says. It also includes “great attention to detail,” with adornments like exotic semiprecious stone in each room. The home has four bedrooms, four full bathrooms and two half-bathrooms, plus an office, billiard room and more. Situated on more than one-and-a-half acres, “the location is very private but just a few minutes from all the amenities on the island,” McDermott adds.

$4.1 million

A brand-new custom home sold at 301 First Ave. S. in Old Naples in August after spending just two months on the market. Gulfstream Homes collaborated with Crosswinds Development for the design and build of the coastal-modern residence, which is located just a few blocks from the beach and Fifth Avenue South. MHK Architecture & Planning served as the architect. Spanning more than 4,000 square feet, the expansive estate boasts four bedrooms, four full bathrooms and one half- bathroom, plus an oversize upstairs den with surrounding windows. “It was honestly one of my favorite office or club room types of design,” Shaun Dalton, a Gulf Coast International Properties broker associate who listed the home, says. “Being elevated and having that many windows looking out was really cool.” Glass sliders on the ground floor can be pocketed away, making for “a unique blend of indoor-outdoor living.” Other features—like Legno Bastone French oak flooring, rare stone countertops and imported Italian tile—add to the dwelling’s luxurious feel.

$1.7 million

Out-of-state buyers purchased the home at 18611 Verona Lago Drive in Miromar Lakes for $1.7 million in July, just a few months after it appeared on ABC 7’s Out and About Southwest Florida. Built in 2006, the 3,878-square-foot estate includes a three-car garage and 90 feet of lake frontage on a 700-acre lake, plus room for a private boat dock. “The lanai has a fire pit, summer kitchen, large pool and room to seat 20 people outdoors for entertaining,” says Jay Siegall, a real estate agent with Sun Realty who listed the traditional-style property. “It just has a huge undercover area.” Inside, there are three bedrooms, four full bathrooms and one half-bathroom, plus an office, den, home theater, wine room and 12-foot kitchen island. Because the home is located near the end of a cul-de-sac, the new owners can enjoy utmost privacy in addition to quick access to the community’s numerous amenities, including tennis, fishing, dining, fitness and more.
