Design Trends: The New Industrial Age

Sleek construction and cool materials bring industrial design into your home.

A Good Set of Pipes

Watermark Designs’ new Elan Vital faucet combines modern technology—a 1.5-gallon-per-minute aerator—with the utilitarian aesthetic of centuries-ago industrial steam pipes. Solid, aged brass is accented with intricate knurled metal, and engraved hot and cold levers also channel the past. Reminiscent of a Tinker Toy, you get to design every facet of your faucet. Priced from $1,284. Totally worth the trip to the Plumbing Place, Sarasota.

Rustic Intentions

Industrial with a touch of rustic is the right-now trend, perfectly epitomized in the Rockwell Collection’s cart café table, combining refurbished materials like steel, cast iron, cogs, and footings from old factories and warehouses. $1,386 at Peach Tree Designs, Naples.

The Light Fantastic

Hudson Valley’s Machine Age Vestal combines a black textured iron cage frame with perforated metal shades for the ultimate
play on light. $2,097 at local Ferguson Bath, Kitchen & Lighting locations.

A Scene Steel-er

Stainless steel practically screams “industrial,” especially in the modern kitchen. The metal jumps from appliances to the powder-coated pipes wrapped around the pedestal of the Aria, a table for six with a generous solid wood veneer top edged in stainless and a round base combining polished and brushed powder-coated stainless steel. $3,999 at Denmark Interiors, Fort Myers and Naples.

Casting Irons

Stone Forest’s pedestal stand is blatantly industrial, what with the theme spelled out in its name—as in industrial pedestal stand. Totally no-frills utilitarian and a bit on the rustic side, the trestle stand is fashioned from cast iron. Sinks are available in stainless steel, copper/stainless, and antique dark or light recycled copper. $1,950 at Ferguson locations.
