Assistant Editor Opening

Gulfshore Life seeks an Assistant Editor to join our team as we look to build and evolve our iconic brand. Our ideal candidate is passionate about creating engaging and authoritative stories about food, art, culture and other lifestyle topics for a regional market. Ideally, this person has a well-rounded knowledge of Southwest Florida—or is willing and able to gain a strong understanding of the region within a short timeframe. We’re looking for an applicant who demonstrates a deep commitment to the highest quality journalism, and has strong editorial and organizational skills.

Who We Are: Established in 1970, Gulfshore Life is a luxury lifestyle magazine that serves as the authority on the people, places and culture of Southwest Florida (Charlotte, Collier and Lee counties). We produce 12 magazines a year, in addition to several Special Edition publications. 

What we’re looking for: A solid generalist writer/editor type with at least one to two years of journalism writing and editing experience. As Assistant Editor, you will pitch ideas and write FOB stories on food, art, travel and health, as well as profiles and features. You will manage the events calendar and help compile information for feature packages. You will assist in the scheduling, assigning, editing, copyediting and fact-checking of articles while also supporting the editorial team as directed/needed to execute the editorial strategy. The ideal candidate is a curious person who is always looking for story ideas, stays up-to-date on local and national news and trends and is receptive to professional feedback. We’re looking for someone who is proactive, organized and deadline-oriented without needing to be micromanaged. Applicants must care about delivering strong work and have a willingness to go the extra mile. You must be able to be a utility player on a diverse, tight-knit team of professionals. You have to be passionate about storytelling in all its forms (service, short, longform, digital), tech-savvy and able to produce content for digital platforms. Must be willing to assist during company events as requested. Experience at a luxury and/or lifestyle magazine is a plus. Bonus points if you are familiar with Adobe InCopy.

 

Minimum Qualifications and Job Requirements | All must be met to be considered. 

 

  • Education: Bachelor’s Degree (journalism focus preferred) 
  • Experience: One to two years of journalism writing and editing experience—ideally in magazine publishing
