The play dares to ask what it takes to transcend the limitations of life and personal circumstance, and if pure will is enough to change a man’s destiny. King Hedley II is part of August Wilson’s ten-play American Century Cycle that, decade by decade, examines African American life in the United States during the twentieth century.
