About Bibi Graetz:
From a medieval castle, Castello di Vincigliata, acquired by his parents over 60 years ago, winemaker Bibi Graetz crafts his wines on a hillside overlooking the great city of Florence. Beginning initially with only a small, 5-acre vineyard on this hillside in Fiesole, in little under two decades, Bibi has become one of Italy's most ingenious winemakers adding "cult winemaker" in addition to "talented abstract artist" tohis dossier.
A graduate of Florence’s Accademia dell’Arte, Graetz turned to making wine in the late 1990s. The existing contracts on the vineyards around his family home, Castello di Vincigliatta, were drawing to an end, and Graetz had to decide whether to renew them or begin farming the fruit himself. He began producing wine made with local varieties Sangiovese, Colorino, and Canaiolo in 2000. Two years later he added white wines to his portfolio, using Ansonica and Vermentino grapes grown on Isola de Giglio, an island off the Tuscan coast. He farms more than 50 “garden vineyards” filled with old vines around Tuscany, and his most famous wine, Testamatta, which means “crazy head,” received its moniker because that is what Graetz is called by those who know him.
