Description
Resilience is a solo exhibition of realism painter and contemporary sculptor Mara Sfara’s exceptional quixotic artwork at Emillions Art. Curated by founder global art consultant Marlissa Gardner,
Resilience features more than two dozen oil paintings of domestic and endangered animal species, idyllic landscapes of mountains, glaciers and oceans (what Sfara refers to as “heavenly scenes”) and chic, crystal clear 12-inch Lucite® teddy bears that echo the artist’s powerful empathy for nature and the animal kingdom.
Resilience opens Thursday, Nov.18 with a personal appearance by the artist at a reception from 5 – 7 pm in the Emillions Arts 2,000 square foot showroom with spacious outdoor balcony overlooking 5th Avenue South in Naples, Fla. Reservations requested shorturl.at/jluP3 . The exhibition will be open to the public Nov. 19 through Dec. 8, Tuesday through Saturday, 10 am until 5 pm.
A highlight of the exhibition is Ms. Sfara's original Marilyn Monroe and a Pekingese Dog painting, based on Milton H. Greene's iconic 1955 photograph at his New York studio during a Look magazine photo fashion shoot featuring the actress hugging a Pekingese dog.
Ms. Sfara of Farmington, CT, conceived a figurative oil portrait noting while her subject is beaming in the painting, the work nods to the many hardships the actress endured and concealed behind a joyful demeanor including her desire and inability to have a child.
“Marilyn holds the dog like the way a mother holds her baby. She desperately wanted a baby, but never gave birth,” says Ms. Sfara, remarking that Monroe’s loss is relevant today due to isolation and loss from the COVID-19 pandemic.
