Boys & Girls Club of Collier County’s “Great Futures Start Here” Celebration Luncheon will celebrate the community’s support of the annual scholarship campaign. 100 percent of all contributions from the campaign go straight to the programs and scholarship funds for youth that attend the club. These scholarships help disadvantaged families pay for their children’s membership fees. Member scholarships provide more opportunities for youth to attend the club’s after school and summer programs, where they can receive academic assistance, participate in recreational leadership and artistic activities, as well as form friendships and bonds that last a lifetime.
Thanise Marc the 2013 Youth of the Year, will speak about her experience as a club member and the doors it has opened to her future.
Guest speaker, retired NBA professional basketball player and Boys & Girls Club alumni Anthony “Spud” Webb will also speak about his time as a Club member and the positive impact it has had on his life. Spud began playing basketball at the Turnkey Boys Club in Dallas and although the point guard was repeatedly overlooked by coaches due to his small size, he ultimately played 12 seasons in the NBA. In 1986, Spud went on to win the Slam Dunk Contest at the NBA All-Star Game.
