Description
Fitness is very important for those in the active aging population. Older adults need to have adequate strength, flexibility, and endurance to accomplish their goals of everyday activities, work, play or compete. Assessing these components of fitness can detect weaknesses which can be treated before causing serious functional limitations.
Level of physical fitness or ‘functional fitness’, defined as “having the physiologic capacity to perform normal everyday activities safely and independently without undue fatigue” can be determined by various test protocols. However, most of these test protocols are designed for the younger population and are not appropriate for the active aging population. The Naples Personal Training team has developed a functional fitness assessment for the active aging population. Our test will assess six important ‘functional fitness’ parameters for the active aging, comprising of body composition, lower and upper body strength, aerobic endurance, lower and upper body flexibility, and agility/dynamic balance. Each test component of the have been selected for its high reliability
Our responsibility as wellness professionals is to prepare individuals to live, work, play or compete to the best of their ability in planned and reactive situations, to add purpose to living life for life. Our team embraces functional training and the opportunity to transform lives and support older adults—not only adding years to their lives, but adding life to their years.
