Hot Dish: Cook Your Heart Out with Naples Originals

BY August 12, 2015

Every year when school gets back in swing, raise your hand if you find yourself nostalgically longing for a seat at the front of the class or at least an excuse to sharpen a few pencils? This October, thanks to the new Foodie Camp, you can trade pencils for knives and sharpen your kitchen skills by becoming a student of your favorite local celebrity chefs. That’s right, the independent restaurateurs who make up Naples Originals—a group founded eight years ago to support local culinary talent and unique, home-grown eateries—are hosting a week-long roster of classes to teach anyone hungry to learn the tricks of their trade. Loved your last sautéed grouper at Alexander’s? Have the master himself demystify that dish (or whichever other he chooses). At least three classes per day are scheduled from Oct. 19-22, and tickets can be purchased here (sales support an FGCU hospitality scholarship and St. Matthew’s House). So far nine chefs have signed on to be professors, making this the only time you won’t want to be saved by the bell.
