Hot Dish: Coast Still Makes Waves

BY August 21, 2015

Ever since The Naples Beach Hotel yanked my all-time favorite lobster roll from Sunset’s menu, I’ve been searching for another go-to for that comforting taste of New England on a bun. Turns out I didn’t need to look very far, just up the shore toward Coast.

The restaurant, at the back of the Edgewater Beach Hotel’s lobby, has a great perch—floor-to-ceiling windows overlooking the Gulf, plus a few outdoor tables. For years, it has been on the radar of locals seeking quality beach eats, but after some shifting tides (the hotel’s ownership has changed several times), people wondered if the kitchen’s crew had their sea legs.

That lobster roll? Meaty, creamy (but not overly so) and on a perfectly toasted bun. Our entire meal, in fact, was smooth sailing: attentive service; an ultra-crispy flatbread devoured in a flash; a quesadilla topped with watermelon and jicama while not the prettiest plate was Florida in a bite; and a tropical slaw with the right amount of zing from julienned peppers proved a refreshing side to several sandwiches.

If you’re at Lowdermilk and crave more than a shot of Good Humor, don’t let the Edgewater’s gate on the sand keep you from walking up to Coast.
