Gulfshore Playhouse’s season opens this weekend with Tennessee Williams’ The Glass Menagerie, and if you want to really experience the play—or any of the shows in the 2015-16 lineup—jump online and sign up for the “Synergy Series.”
The program urges viewers to “dig deeper” into the scripts through reading clubs, panel discussions, actor and director “talk-backs,” and a new “On the Scene” program that takes participants backstage and into the world behind the curtain.
“Our whole goal is to help people dig more deeply into the play, Gulfshore Playhouse and themselves as human beings,” says Kristen Coury, the company founder and producing artistic director.
All offerings are free except for “On the Scene.” Programs include:
- Script Club: Book club-style discussions that dive into the themes and topics of each text and teach participants the art of script reading and interpretation.
- Panel Discussions: Experts from Southwest Florida get together to talk about the themes embedded in the dramas Gulfshore Playhouse produces.
- Pre-Show Discussions
- Actor & Director Talk-Backs: A Q-and-A session with the cast.
- On the Scene: An opportunity to meet with the director and other artistic team members to discuss creative and design elements; go on a behind-the-scenes tour; watch an hour of rehearsal; enjoy lunch at a local restaurant with actors and the director, as well as a post-show cocktail reception; and receive a discount off of opening-night tickets. The fee for On the Scene is $125 per person.
