In March, attorney Joe North donated $100,000 to the Lee County Black History Society, allowing the group to hire their first full-time employees and make plans for the $22 million center, which breaks ground next year.

Created by LGBTQ+ wellness-centric Visuality and Pride SWFL, the center is named for Arlene Goldberg, a Fort Myers gay rights advocate who joined the 2014 lawsuit case that legalized gay marriage in Florida.
