Design Find: Poetry in Motion

French sculptures that tell a story through ethereal elegance

BY January 26, 2015

Famed French glassmaker Daum’s limited-edition pâte de cristal figures created by sculptor Marie-Luise Bodirsky evoke ethereal elegance in soft light-catching tones. The German artist translates poetry into fluid motion in her trio of elongated figures, including the 18-inch Lady Ginkgo ($6,750, above), inspired by Goethe’s Ginko Biloba, which uses the distinctive split of the ginkgo tree as a symbol of friendship and unity. For the couple on your gift list, Confidence ($2,700, below), standing 9.5 inches, captures a silent dance and the poetry of Khalil Gibran: “But let there be spaces in your togetherness. And let the winds of the heavens dance between you.” Available through Neiman Marcus and Daum’s flagship boutique in New York City.
