How to Break Your Sugar Addiction

Deep down inside you know it’s time to cure your sweet tooth. We know, it’s hard to give up cookies or ice cream, but too much sugar is going to cause some serious health concerns in the long run.

The catch is that it’s just so hard to give up sugar. Basically, it’s addictive. And like when trying to give up any addiction, you’re almost bound to relapse.

So, here’s some help in the form of a few tips about kicking your cravings.

The Washington Post suggests a few steps:

-Satisfy your sweet tooth in a healthy way by snacking on dried or fresh fruit.

-Budget your sugar. Limit yourself to 10 tablespoons a day and figure out the best ways to spread it out.

-Treat yourself. With non-sugary treats. Find a way to reward yourself by sticking to your limit.

Mind Body Green has a few other pointers, including watching out for “sneaky sugars.” You’d never think it, but things like balsamic vinaigrette dressing or marinara sauce contain more sugar than expected. Be sure you’re checking labels to get a good handle on the amount of sugar in what you’re eating.
