“Food Truck Wars” Hits Fort Myers

Six Bends is hosting the inaugural smackdown April 16 with 40 roving participants.

BY April 15, 2016

For a taste of brisket, doner kebabs, carnitas, gourmet cookies and more, look no further than Top Rocker Field this Saturday.

Hand in hand with the rise of our local craft beer scene, more food trucks than ever have been whizzing around the Paradise Coast. Capitalizing on that trend, Six Bends in Fort Myers is throwing an inaugural Food Truck Wars tomorrow (April 16). Parking and entrance to the grounds are both free, and from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. more than 40 mobile kitchens from across the Sunshine State will be dishing out their specialties in a pay-as-you-munch format (most entrées range in price from $6-8).

Local players angling to make Southwest Florida proud in the battle for our taste buds' approval include The Sizzle Truck (which makes regular appearances at Naples Beach Brewery) and The Butcher’s Son (a newcomer this year also navigating the craft beer scene). To add flame to the competitive fire, a panel of judges will crown winning eats across several categories, and your voice will factor in for the People's Choice Award.

Try not to skip bites from Palate Party—its Miami-based chef-owner, Robyn Almodovar, is a veteran of three TV culinary competitions. There will also be live music, a beer garden and a kid zone with a bounce house so tykes can have a rockin' good time as well. A portion of the proceeds will benefit the local Rotary, and for more information, including a comprehensive list of participating trucks, click here.
