Recipe: A Hibiscus Mule for a Cause

BY November 9, 2021

Inspired by the Out of Africa theme for the upcoming Zoo Gala, which benefits Naples Zoo at Caribbean Gardens, event caterer Crave Culinaire developed the Roselle Moscow Mule. Native to Africa, roselle, a type of hibiscus, is a popular ingredient on the continent for its purported immune-boosting qualities. In the cocktail, the tart flavor of hibiscus-infused syrup combines with lemon, ginger beer and vodka for a well-balanced specialty cocktail. Here’s how you can make a version at home.

What You’ll Need:

  • 1½ ounces vodka
  • ¼ cup hibiscus syrup
  • 2 tablespoons lemon juice
  • ¼ cup ginger beer

Directions:

  1. Fill a cocktail shaker with ice. Pour over the vodka, hibiscus syrup and lemon juice, and shake well.
  2. Strain into a copper mug filled with ice. Top with ginger beer, and garnish with lemon slices and edible hibiscus flowers, if desired.
